Trustee Dave Heymes
4-Year Term - 2010

I was born and raised in rural Grand Traverse County.  I married my wife, Diane, in 1968 and raised two (2) children, Michelle and David Jr.  Michelle has returned to Kalkaska to live and David is currently living in Maui, HI.  Diane and I have two (2) grandchildren, Richie and Stephanie, both living in Kalkaska.

I started my public service career in 1958 when my family started a small business, then after my marriage to Diane became a chef at a popular Traverse City Restaurant until 1973, when I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a Security Policeman.  I received an Honorable Discharge in 1979 and settled, with my family, in Kalkaska where I started my law enforcement career as a Kalkaska Police Reserve Officer while finishing College.  I was hired part-time as a police officer in 1981 and then sworn in as a full-time police officer in 1982 for the Village of Kalkaska.  I was progressively promoted to sergeant, lieutenant and in 2003 appointed as Chief of Police.  I remained Chief until I retired in December2005.  In 2006 I was elected as Trustee on the Village of Kalkaska Council and serve in that capacity to present day.

I made Kalkaska my permanent home in 1979.  Both my children graduated from Kalkaska High School, and now both grandchildren are attending school here.  My wife, Diane, has also proven her dedication to the Kalkaska area by being a long time employee of the Kalkaska County Sheriff Department.  I have dedicated my life to the residents of the Village of Kalkaska, in an attempt to make a better, more peaceful place to live.  I truly believe it is a privilege and honor to serve you.  I continue to live by the Vision Statement adapted by the Kalkaska Police Department, “Commitment to Service ~ Partners with the Community.
