Chief Mark S. Bonofiglio

Mark Bonofiglio began his law enforcement career in 1984 as a graduate of the Mid Michigan Police Academy, he worked as a part time reserve officer in Grand Ledge, Michigan, his home town. In April 1985 he became a police officer for the Village of Kalkaska.
Mark has been a member of the Kalkaska Police Department ever since that time. In December 2001 he was promoted to Sergeant with the Kalkaska Police Department. On December 1, 2005 he was promoted to Chief of Police for the Kalkaska Police Department.
Mark has many accomplishments throughout his career. He is a class III breath test operator, he has been a Paramedic and EMS instructor and for a short time was head of the Kalkaska Emergency Unit, Kalkaska Counties ambulance service. He has two advanced police officer certificates, and accommodations from the Michigan State Police, he is a certified Evidence Technician.
Mark is a graduate of the Northern Michigan Leadership Academy a six (6) month course sponsored by Michigan State University. He is well trained in Community policing from the Michigan State University’s Regional Community Policing Institute. Mark is a firearms instructor who teaches at the Kirtland Regional Police Academy.
Mark was instrumental in bringing many grants to the Kalkaska Police Department. He has brought in three federal grants worth over $300,000.00 and numerous other small community grants. He is a founding member of the Kalkaska Chapter of "Americas Promise" a program that provides opportunity for the youth of Kalkaska.
Mark has been married to Sylvia Bonofiglio (Rodgers) for 17 years. He has two children Steven (16) and Ashley (14). His wife Sylvia just recently retired after 25 years of service with the Kalkaska Sheriff’s Departments, 911 dispatch.
Mark is an active community member, he was the President of the Kalkaska Pop Warner football association for 5 years, he is the current president of the Kalkaska Athletic Boosters Association. Mark is a licensed residential builder and his hobbies include building radio controlled model’s, camping and NASCAR.
